On May 20, reporters in a government bus were being taken to the coverage of Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhul district, when security forces stopped the bus near Gwalatabi outpost in East Imphal district. Hundreds of people took out a march in Lamlong Eastern district against efforts to divide Manipur. Along with this, a 5 km long human chain was formed from Singajamei to Lillong in Imphal West district. Similar protests were also held in Nambol and Bishnupur cities of Bishnupur district.

A delegation of a Meeti organization in Manipur on Tuesday informed the central government about its concerns about a recent incident.
