An unusual event occurred on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru, where a passenger was unexpectedly confined to the aircraft’s lavatory throughout the flight. The airline has since apologized to the passenger and reportedly offered a refund. The peculiar situation, which involved a malfunctioning door lock, has captured public attention.
The passenger was eventually freed after the plane landed at Bengaluru airport. Ground staff and engineers quickly responded to open the locked toilet door.
The incident occurred on Monday night, on a flight that was delayed and took off at 2:10 AM. A passenger in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff, but was unable to exit. The crew’s attempts to unlock the door were unsuccessful.
In an attempt to comfort the stranded passenger, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door. The note instructed the passenger to remain seated on the toilet seat until the flight landed in Bengaluru. This, along with the entire situation, led to an outpouring of social media commentary. The flight arrived in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Engineering staff subsequently opened the door. The airline expressed regret and issued an apology for the inconvenience caused.
