A SpiceJet flyer faced an embarrassing situation on a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight, spending the entire journey locked inside the aircraft’s lavatory. The airline has apologized and offered compensation, but the unusual circumstances have left many in disbelief.
The passenger was eventually rescued after the flight landed at Bengaluru airport. Ground staff and engineers worked to open the malfunctioning toilet door.
Reports indicate the incident happened on a Monday night. The flight, departing from Mumbai, was delayed by two hours, taking off at 2:10 AM instead of its scheduled 10:55 PM. A passenger in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff. However, the door lock jammed, trapping the individual inside.
The crew’s attempts to unlock the door were unsuccessful. The crew then decided to pass a handwritten note through the door’s gap. The note asked the passenger to stay calm and remain seated on the toilet seat until the flight landed in Bengaluru.
The crew’s message quickly spread online, and social media users reacted in various ways. The flight eventually landed at Bengaluru at around 3:45 AM. An airport engineer subsequently opened the door. SpiceJet expressed regret over the incident and offered an apology to the passenger.
