An IED explosion in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh resulted in the death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje and injuries to other police officers. The incident took place near Dondra village on Monday morning while police were patrolling in anticipation of a bandh called by Maoists. ASP Giripunje, critically wounded in the blast, later died during treatment at the Konta hospital. The incident occurred between 9 am and 10 am. Following the attack, authorities have initiated intensified search operations in the area. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed grief over the loss of the ASP, recognizing his bravery and valor. The attack showcases the ongoing challenges posed by Naxal groups to security forces in the region. Previous incidents, such as the January 2025 attack in Bijapur, highlight the persistent threat. The security forces have been successful in their operations against the Naxals, leading the Naxals to launch more desperate attacks against the security forces.
