The makers of the movie ‘Thug Life,’ featuring Kamal Haasan, have brought their grievances to the Supreme Court, claiming that the Karnataka government has not provided the necessary protection or assistance in the face of serious threats. The threats stemmed from Kamal Haasan’s comments about the Kannada language during the audio launch in Chennai. These comments led to a backlash from pro-Kannada groups, resulting in demands for the film to be banned in Karnataka. The film’s team is arguing that the failure to register any FIRs or initiate any legal action by the State Government, despite these threats, is a violation of their right to free speech. The Supreme Court has now asked the Karnataka government for a response to the allegations. Kamal Haasan has since clarified that his statement was taken out of context.
