Air India is taking steps to renumber its flights on the London Gatwick to Ahmedabad route, with the existing numbers AI171 and AI172 set to be replaced by AI159 and AI160 from June 17, 2025. This decision comes after the catastrophic crash of AI171 on June 12, which resulted in the loss of over 274 lives. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, impacting a residential area. The flight had 242 people onboard. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, including a review of the flight recorders and forensic analysis of collected evidence. Despite the tragedy, the route will continue operating with the new flight designations.
