The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has announced that the Indian auto industry maintained a stable performance in May 2025. Total domestic sales across Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, Two-Wheelers, and Quadricycles reached 2,012,969 units, according to the report. While the two-wheeler and passenger vehicle segments performed well, three-wheelers and quadricycles faced challenges. The two-wheeler segment, including scooters, motorcycles, and mopeds, experienced a 2.2% growth compared to May of the previous year. Scooters saw a notable increase of 7.1%, while motorcycles remained consistent. Mopeds, on the other hand, saw a decrease. Three-wheelers saw a 3.3% decline month-on-month. However, three-wheeler production increased by 10.6%, and exports rose by 29.6%. The industry expects a positive outlook, bolstered by recent RBI repo rate cuts and expectations of a strong monsoon, which should improve affordability and boost consumer confidence. Key players in passenger vehicle sales included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Hyundai Motor India Ltd. In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. achieved combined sales of 84,226 units and 110,757 units respectively, between April and May 2025-26.
