
During his visit to Cyprus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a traditional Indian expression of respect and received the highest honor the nation offers. Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa, a member of the Nicosia Council, touched PM Modi’s feet as he arrived at the historic Centre of Nicosia. In response, PM Modi placed his hand on her head and acknowledged her understanding of Indian customs. President Nikos Christodoulides presented PM Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, in recognition of his service to the nation. PM Modi expressed gratitude, stating the honor represented the commitment of both countries to peace, security, and shared values. The visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in two decades, also involved meetings with the Indian diaspora and local business representatives.
