Angelo Mathews, a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cricket, recently retired from Test matches, leaving behind a lasting legacy. His Test debut at the Galle International Stadium marked his final appearance in the format. Notably, Mathews holds a unique record – the only batter in the world to be dismissed on both 99 and 199 in Test cricket. This occurred in matches against India and Bangladesh, respectively. Throughout his 118-Test career, Mathews demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency, accumulating 8167 runs with an average of 44.62, including 16 centuries. He is the third-highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in Tests, behind only Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. His career reflects his talent and the unfortunate instances that marked it.
