
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian chess Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh on her remarkable win against the world’s number one player, Hou Yifan, at the World Team Blitz Championships in London. The Prime Minister took to social media to commend Deshmukh’s outstanding performance in the second leg of the Blitz semifinal, emphasizing her grit and inspiring potential for future chess players. Divya Deshmukh expressed her appreciation for the recognition. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also extended his congratulations, celebrating the ‘Checkmate’ victory. India’s chess players have consistently achieved success on the international stage. D. Gukesh, the current World Champion and a recipient of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, finished third in the Norway Chess tournament, achieving a notable win over Magnus Carlsen. Arjun Erigaisi also performed well, securing fifth place. In the Stepan Avagyan Memorial Chess Tournament, Aravindh Chithambaram took first place, and R Praggnanandhaa finished second.
