The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that 517 Indian nationals have been successfully repatriated from Iran through ‘Operation Sindhu.’ A special flight landed in New Delhi from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on June 21. This operation was launched to assist Indian citizens during the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Personal accounts from evacuees highlight the initial period of sheltering and subsequent movement to safer locations. The coordinated efforts by the Indian government and the Indian Embassy in Tehran were greatly appreciated. Those evacuated expressed their appreciation for the backing from Prime Minister Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. The returning citizens shared their concerns regarding the situation in Iran, praising the government’s role in their safe evacuation. The operation also facilitated the safe return of Indian students from Urmia Medical University via Armenia. The conflict between Israel and Iran began with an Israeli airstrike followed by retaliatory actions from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, leading to the necessity of the evacuation.
