
Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay,’ a defining film in Indian cinema starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, is slated for a grand revival. The restored and uncut 4K version of the movie will premiere at the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, Italy on June 27, 2025. The screening, organized in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation and Sippy Films, will take place in Piazza Maggiore, providing a historic setting for the iconic film. The restoration includes the original ending and deleted scenes. Amitabh Bachchan spoke about the film’s initial challenges and eventual triumph, emphasizing its impact on Indian cinema. Dharmendra praised the film’s enduring appeal, the memorable dialogues and the iconic characters. ‘Sholay,’ first released on August 15, 1975, features Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Asrani, and Mac Mohan in pivotal roles. The re-release honors the movie’s place in cinematic history.
