
AIIMS Bhubaneswar will be designated a Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Disease. This was revealed by Union Minister Shri Jual Oram during the World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. The minister recognized AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s commitment to providing thorough care to sickle cell patients. The facility cares for more than 700 registered Sickle Cell Disease patients, with a significant number in the 0–19 age group. The institute offers diagnostic services, treatment, and carrier screening. Prenatal diagnosis is also provided. The Indian government has a goal to eliminate Sickle Cell Anaemia by 2047, having screened millions of people. The minister took part in a review meeting and scientific session focused on SCD, acknowledging the hospital’s broad approach.
