The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) initiated a protest against Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar during a book launch event at Kerala University. The event commemorated ’50 years of Emergency’. Police intervened, leading to the detention of protesting SFI members who were voicing their dissent. This event mirrors previous protests from last week, with SFI accusing the Governor of adopting an anti-student position. These protests are related to the display of images of Bharat Mata and RSS ideologues at the Kerala Raj Bhawan. Furthermore, SFI members protested at Kannur University against a directive from the university regarding the monitoring of event content to ensure the absence of ‘anti-national elements’, burning copies of the order as a sign of protest. The protests reflect concerns about academic freedom and the right to expression.
