The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced sweeping rule changes across all formats of the game. While some changes are already in effect, white-ball cricket will see the official introduction of these changes on July 2nd.
A key highlight is the introduction of the stop clock in Test cricket, mirroring its use in white-ball formats. Fielding teams will now have to begin a new over within 60 seconds. Penalties will be applied for delays. Umpires now have exclusive authority to determine ball changes.
DRS protocols see adjustments regarding scenarios of caught behind. The order of appeals are assessed chronologically. Fairness of catches is still paramount for no-balls, with the third umpire reviewing the catch.
Stricter penalties are introduced for deliberate short runs. The fielding team can choose the next batter, and a 5-run penalty is imposed on the batting team. Like-for-like replacements are permitted in first-class matches.
