
Following the harrowing incident of torture against two Dalit men, authorities in Odisha have arrested the prime accused, Rajesh Samal. The incident occurred on June 22nd in Ganjam district. The arrest of Samal, along with two other individuals, brings the total number of arrests to 12, with investigations ongoing to apprehend other suspects. The victims, Babula Nayak and Bulu Nayak, were falsely accused of cattle smuggling. The attackers, demanding Rs 30,000, subjected the victims to severe brutality including being tied, beaten, and forced to crawl. The incident has sparked outrage, with a video of the victims’ ordeal circulating widely. Political parties have weighed in, with some demanding justice for the victims and others urging against politicizing the matter.
