The alleged gang rape in Kolkata has sparked strong reactions, with BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari accusing the Trinamool Congress of creating an unsafe environment for women. Bhandari specifically condemned the Mamata Banerjee government, alleging that it supports the rape of women, pointing to the Kasba case where an accused is linked to the TMC. He claims that the ruling party protects criminals for political advantage. The National Commission for Women has initiated action, taking suo-motu cognisance and seeking a detailed response from the police. NCW member Archana Majumdar voiced her outrage and emphasized the need for thorough investigation and justice for the victim. BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also weighed in, criticizing the state’s law and order and the alleged involvement of TMC members in crimes. The police have apprehended three suspects in relation to the gang rape incident.
