Raipur, June 28, 2025/ Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, many initiatives are being taken to make the government’s working style transparent, impartial and public-friendly in all departments in accordance with the Good Governance policy of the Chhattisgarh government. In this sequence, large-scale transfers have been made in the Commercial Tax (GST) Department after years. Prior to this, transfers were made only a couple of times in the department in the last two-three years in a limited number (only 10-15 officers). Most of the officers and employees of the GST department were working at the same posting site for a long time. Some officers were posted at the same place for 18 consecutive years. This situation hinders the transparency and impartiality in the functioning of the department and tax collection.
Out of the sanctioned 35 State Tax Deputy Commissioner posts in the department, 17 officers have been given new postings after promotion. Of the remaining 8 Deputy Commissioners, 3 officers were posted in Raipur for the last 10 years, 2 officers for 8 years and 3 officers for 4-5 years. In addition, 8 Deputy Commissioners and 4 Assistant Commissioners were working in their home districts for 5 years.
178 State Tax Officers/State Tax Inspectors were also posted at the same place for the last 4-5 years, out of which 34 State Tax Officers and 45 State Tax Inspectors were continuously posted in their home districts for 5 years. Due to being a tax collection department, the possibility of developing personal relationships with business organizations increases due to being posted in the same area for such a long period, which affects the work.
Commercial Tax Minister Shri O.P. Chaudhary said that the state government has taken effective steps towards decentralization and strengthening of tax administration in the state while making necessary improvements in this situation. Earlier, even though the number of circles of the department was 30, the departmental offices were limited to only 15 districts, while the offices of all the major departments of the state government are in all the districts. Addressing this shortcoming, for the first time, circles have been established in Dantewada, Kondagaon, Jashpur and newly formed districts Sakti and Sarangarh, and postings of officers have been ensured there.
To strengthen revenue collection, BIU and audit units have been formed in the department and officers have been deployed in them. Despite such large-scale transfers, full attention has been given to human sentiments. Especially, the posting of both husband and wife officers has been ensured in the same district and female officers have been transferred to nearby districts as far as possible.
Finance Minister Shri Chaudhary said that the state government will continue to take continuous steps in the coming time to strengthen an honest, transparent and dedicated work culture in all departments.
