The Odisha government is set to appoint ‘Sishu Sebikas’ in Sishu Vatikas, as stated in a recent government announcement. These assistants are being introduced to help teachers in managing the 5-6 age group children enrolled in the pre-school program under the National Education Policy. The Sishu Vatikas are located in government-run primary schools. The number of childcare assistants assigned will depend on the enrollment numbers at each Sishu Vatika. The initiative will be funded through the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, with salaries matching those of the midday meal cooks. The Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi, anticipates that this program will significantly boost the quality of early education in the state.
