Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, condemning the ongoing loss of civilian lives. He renewed his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and for the unconditional release of all hostages.
In an official statement, the UN Secretary-General strongly condemned the recent attacks on areas sheltering displaced civilians and locations providing food. The statement reiterated the call for full, safe, and sustained humanitarian access.
Guterres has called for full, safe, and sustained humanitarian access to the region, so aid can reach people who have been deprived of basic needs for an extended period. He urged all parties to comply with their obligations under international law. Given the deteriorating conditions in Gaza, Guterres has called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
He raised alarm over the fact that no fuel has entered the region for more than 17 weeks, cutting off the last lifelines for survival. He emphasized that the lack of fuel would lead to more suffering in Gaza.
Without fuel, incubators will shut down, ambulances will be unable to reach the injured and sick, and water purification systems will stop functioning. The delivery of humanitarian aid by the United Nations and its partners will also be halted.
Meanwhile, Former US President Donald Trump announced that Israel had agreed to conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. He warned Hamas against rejecting the ceasefire deal, stating that the situation would worsen.
