A devastating incident in Jharkhand led to the death of a man, Gopen Uraon, who was searching for the rare and expensive ‘Rugda’ mushroom. The unfortunate event took place in the forests of Ranchi, where the mushroom is found. The sought-after Rugda is priced at approximately ₹1000 per kilogram. Gopen, a resident of Chanho, was collecting the mushroom in the Honhe Pakartoli forest with his family when the tragedy occurred. The forest was experiencing heavy rainfall. The man was reportedly excited to find a large quantity of the mushroom when he was attacked by an elephant. His wife and son escaped the attack. Authorities from the forest department and local police arrived at the scene. The body was recovered and sent for a post-mortem. Local villagers have noted an increase in elephant activity in the region and reported previous attacks on residents. Rugda, a type of underground mushroom, is known for its exceptional taste and nutritional benefits, including important vitamins and minerals. The mushroom’s limited seasonal availability contributes to its high market value.
