Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, has expressed optimism about a potential meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping within the current year. Rubio, speaking from Kuala Lumpur, indicated a high probability of the summit, citing the mutual desire of both countries. His visit to Kuala Lumpur also involved a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The meeting, described as constructive and positive, served as a platform to address ongoing trade disputes and geopolitical competition. Both leaders were in Kuala Lumpur for ASEAN-related meetings. The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is also scheduled to meet with Chinese officials in the near future to continue discussions on relevant matters.
