Raipur, July 15, 2025/ Enu, a resident of Umarda, a small village in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh, is known as “Scooty Didi” throughout the country today. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, while appreciating Enu’s tenacity, self-reliance, and her contribution towards the empowerment of rural women, said that daughters like Enu are the real identity of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Their courage, dedication, and resolve are changing the picture of the villages of Chhattisgarh.
Enu’s inspiring journey is proof that if one has the passion to do something, then lack of resources, social pressure, and traditional thinking cannot stop one. Born in an ordinary rural family, Enu continued her studies even in difficult circumstances and obtained a postgraduate degree in economics. After this, she joined the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission ‘Bihaan’, took training in tailoring and embroidery, received a loan of one lakh rupees, and set an example of financial discipline by repaying the loan on time.
Enu understood that mobility is very essential for the empowerment of rural women. She learned to ride a scooty from ‘Pratham Sanstha’ and maintained her self-confidence despite the taunts and ridicule of society in the beginning and did not give up. When she started connecting with women on a scooty from village to village, she was recognized as “Scooty Didi”.
In the year 2023, Enu established the “Women’s Two-Wheeler Training Center”. Initially, only 2-3 women took training, but gradually this initiative became a revolution in rural society. So far, she has taught more than 30 women to ride a scooty, who have now started reaching places like Anganwadi, schools, banks, and health centers independently.
This initiative of Enu has not only made the daily mobility of women easier, but has also brought about a change in the entire social outlook. Now, parents in the villages themselves are sending their daughters and daughters-in-law to Enu for training. Her dream is to make 1000 women self-reliant and to soon start a four-wheeler vehicle training center.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai said that people like Enu are the new identity of Chhattisgarh. The state government is committed to promoting such innovations through schemes like ‘Bihaan’, which are bringing about changes at the ground level.
Enu’s contribution is not limited to driving training only. She has also made women proficient in tailoring, LED assembly, MGNREGA works, and household management. Seeing her efforts, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, Smt. Swati Sharma and Dhamtari Collector Shri Avinash Mishra themselves visited Umarda village and appreciated her work.
The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, also shared Enu’s story through a Facebook post, saying that there was a lack of resources in life, but nothing could shake Enu’s courage. She completed her M.A. and received training from ‘Bihaan’ and ‘Pratham Sanstha’ and not only achieved self-reliance but also became an inspiration for others.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai said that today the daughters of Chhattisgarh are not only beneficiaries, but are becoming the carriers of change. The state government will welcome every such initiative that will accelerate women’s empowerment.
