A major encounter in the Lugu mountain region of Bokaro district led to the death of Kunwar Manjhi, a Naxalite with a five-lakh rupee bounty. The encounter also resulted in the martyrdom of a Cobra Battalion jawan. The police initiated a special operation based on intelligence about the presence of a Naxal group near Lugu mountain. During the search operation, a direct confrontation occurred, leading to an intense exchange of fire. Kunwar Manjhi was killed, and his AK-47 was seized. The Naxalites tried to use villagers as a shield. When this failed, they shot and killed a local villager to mislead the police. This encounter took place in the same area where eight Naxalites were killed in April. The search operation continues to locate the remaining Naxals.
