
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the Maldives saw him meeting with representatives from different political factions, showcasing a united front in support of the strong India-Maldives relationship. Modi emphasized that shared values continue to underpin the partnership. He held discussions with the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed. Modi welcomed the establishment of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group. Key topics discussed with Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef included technology, infrastructure, energy, and climate change. The visit, at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu for the 60th Independence Day, provided an opportunity to highlight the centuries-old ties and friendship between the two nations. Several agreements were signed, encompassing areas such as finance, debt management, fisheries, digital advancement, and payment systems, reflecting the commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
