In a critical assessment, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to Operation Sindoor, juxtaposing it with the actions of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee following the Kargil War in 1999. Ramesh referenced the Kargil Review Committee established by Vajpayee, chaired by K. Subrahmanyam, and the subsequent parliamentary deliberation on the committee’s report. He argued that the current government operates within a different political context. Ramesh also highlighted the failure to bring to justice those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attacks. Furthermore, he cited revelations made by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, regarding tactical missteps during Operation Sindoor and the claims of Group Captain Shiv Kumar about political interference. Ramesh also pointed to Lt Gen Rahul R Singh’s disclosure regarding China’s involvement. He also criticized the US President Donald Trump, who claimed to have brokered a ceasefire and hosted the Pakistan Army Chief, which Ramesh found concerning.
