The Indian government is facing new trade hurdles following former US President Donald Trump’s decision to implement a 25% tariff on Indian exports, alongside additional penalties related to purchasing oil from Russia. Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Congress leader, labeled the situation as a ‘very serious matter,’ expressing concerns about the potential impact on India’s trade relationship with the United States. Tharoor noted that further penalties could drive the overall tariff rates significantly higher, potentially harming India’s exports. He emphasized the need for trade negotiations that consider India’s interests and a fair approach to tariffs.
