If you’re planning a getaway to Mussoorie, remember that online registration is now mandatory for all visitors. The Uttarakhand Tourism Department has introduced this measure, following directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), to protect the environment and manage the growing influx of tourists.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has highlighted that the registration system is designed to enhance tourist safety and comfort. This initiative aims to monitor tourist numbers, control traffic, and conserve the natural environment of Mussoorie.
Mussoorie, a popular destination, has faced overcrowding issues in recent years, resulting in traffic congestion and strain on local amenities. To address this, the administration has launched a digital registration system, similar to the Chardham Yatra, to better manage tourist arrivals. Visitors must register through the official website before their trip, providing details such as name, contact information, travel dates, and vehicle registration number. A QR code will be issued upon successful registration, to be scanned at various checkpoints.
Benefits of this new system include real-time monitoring of tourist numbers, improved traffic management, environmental protection, and assistance in city planning. While some hoteliers have expressed concerns, officials believe this is crucial for the sustainable development of Mussoorie. Tourists should register online before their visit to ensure a hassle-free trip and help preserve the ‘Queen of the Hills’.
