A Mumbai court has issued a notice to Rhea Chakraborty in relation to the CBI’s closure report concerning the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI, in its report filed in March 2025, stated that no criminal evidence was found against the individuals previously accused. The notice serves as a procedural requirement, providing the complainant with an opportunity to object to the investigative agency’s decision to close the case.
During the hearing following the case’s closure, Magistrate R. D. Chavan directed that a notice be issued to “the original informant / victim / aggrieved person.” The hearing was adjourned until confirmation of Rhea’s receipt of the notice. She is required to respond by August 12. The court’s action is consistent with legal procedure, allowing the complainant to formally challenge the decision to conclude the investigation.
Rhea Chakraborty had previously filed a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, as well as Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram, alleging they facilitated the obtaining of prescription medication for Sushant without proper medical evaluation.
Rhea claimed Sushant suffered from bipolar disorder and sometimes stopped taking his medications. She also alleged that Sushant’s sister had arranged for medicines via text messages, utilizing fake prescriptions. Her FIR included sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sushant was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020. The event drew considerable media attention and triggered several parallel investigations. Sushant’s father filed a separate FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of abetment to suicide and financial exploitation, charges Rhea has consistently denied.
The CBI took over the investigation from the Mumbai and Bihar police and has now concluded that there is no evidence of foul play. The court will next consider the matter after Chakraborty submits her response to the notice.
