Rahul Gandhi, a key leader in the Lok Sabha, will be present at the special MP-MLA court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, on Wednesday. He arrived in Jharkhand on Tuesday, participating in the funeral of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren before staying overnight in Ranchi. The court appearance is scheduled for approximately 12 PM.
Gandhi will travel to Chaibasa by helicopter, landing at the Tata College grounds. Security measures are intensified around the court, with all individuals undergoing thorough checks. The case in question originates from 2018. During a Congress gathering on March 28, 2018, Gandhi made remarks that were considered offensive towards Amit Shah, then the BJP’s national president and currently the Union Home Minister. BJP leader Pratap Kumar subsequently filed a defamation suit against him in July 2018 in the Chaibasa CJM court.
As Gandhi did not appear in court for this case, a non-bailable warrant was issued on May 24 by the Chaibasa court, compelling his presence on June 26. Seeking to annul this warrant, Gandhi approached the Jharkhand High Court, which instructed him to appear in Chaibasa court on August 6. The country is closely observing today’s proceedings and the court’s decision on his bail plea.
