The releases of ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’, both sequels, occurred on August 1st. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ features Ajay Devgn in a comedic role, while ‘Dhadak 2’ presents a fresh take on romance with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Both films had a degree of anticipation prior to their release, but the audience and critical reactions have been varied. The films are battling for attention at the box office alongside continuing successful films like ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ opened with a respectable Rs 7.25 crore on its first day. The film displayed increasing numbers over the weekend, earning Rs 8.25 crore on Day 2 (a 13.79% increase) and Rs 9.25 crore on Day 3 (a 12.12% increase). However, the momentum waned substantially on Day 4, with collections falling to Rs 2.35 crore, a 74.59% decline. On Day 5, a slight recovery occurred, with Rs 2.50 crore (as per early estimates). This results in a five-day total of Rs 29.60 crore for ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’.
With its current total of Rs 29.60 crore, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ is nearing the Rs 30 crore milestone at the box office. The reception to Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ has not been overly promising, with mixed to negative reviews. Earlier in the year, ‘Raid 2’ had a significantly better opening, generating Rs 19.25 crore on its first day. Favorable reviews and positive word of mouth quickly pushed the film past Rs 100 crore.
Besides Ajay Devgn, the film features Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra. ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ also includes the late actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, just a few months prior to the film’s release. The initial ‘Son Of Sardaar’ was released in 2012 and featured Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla, and Sanjay Dutt.
‘Dhadak 2’ started with a modest Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day. The film showed a minor upward trend over the weekend, earning Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4.15 crore on Day 3, for a first weekend total of Rs 11.4 crore. However, the momentum dramatically dropped on Day 4, with collections falling to Rs 1.35 crore, a significant decline of over 67%. On Day 5, the film is estimated to have earned around Rs 1.60 crore, resulting in a total collection of approximately Rs 14.35 crore.
While the opening weekend showed promise, the weekday decline implies that ‘Dhadak 2’ might encounter obstacles in maintaining its box office pace. The romantic drama faces stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’. Meanwhile, ‘Saiyaara’ and the animated film ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’ are also performing well.
‘Dhadak 2’, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, explores themes of caste and social discrimination, telling a love story between two law students. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film is a spiritual successor to the 2018 romantic drama ‘Dhadak’. The film also features Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Deeksha Joshi, Priyank Tiwari, Amit Jaat, Mayank Khanna, and Ashwant Lodhi.
