Gill’s 754 runs were the highest in the series. While he didn’t surpass Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 774 runs, he did break the record of 732 runs as captain. Gill is now second in the list of captains with the most runs in a bilateral Test series, after Sir Don Bradman (810). He also scored four centuries in 10 innings.
Tendulkar highlighted that clarity and strategy are essential for good batting. He mentioned that Gill’s consistent approach was evident in his footwork. Tendulkar pointed out that drawing the Test series against England was a significant achievement for the Indian team. He added that a captain’s effectiveness depends on the bowlers’ performance, their discipline, and how well they execute their plans.
Tendulkar further explained that when bowlers face difficulties, they may experiment. The captain then must assess the fielding strategy to prevent runs from being scored. Tendulkar praised Gill’s ability to control Bazball throughout the series and prevent England from winning at home. He also credited the Indian bowlers for developing specific strategies to limit England’s scoring.
Furthermore, Tendulkar commended Mohammed Siraj’s bowling performance. He highlighted Siraj’s consistent enthusiasm. Siraj took 23 wickets, the most in the series.
