Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has accused the Election Commission of vote manipulation, using data from the Mahadevpura assembly constituency in Karnataka to support his claims. In a press conference, he answered questions about the perception of bias in the election commission. Gandhi stated that the effectiveness of EVMs or ballot papers hinges on an unbiased election commission and a non-compromised voter list. He suggested that fairness cannot be guaranteed without an impartial commission, describing the current state as one where the umpires favor the opposing team.
Gandhi emphasized the compromised state of the election system’s integrity and implicated the Election Commission in the irregularities. He suggested that the judiciary should intervene.
Gandhi mentioned internal surveys showing the Congress party anticipated winning 16 seats in Karnataka, but only secured 9. He examined the Mahadevpura assembly constituency’s data from the 2024 elections. The data, received from the Election Commission, showed that the BJP secured 658,915 votes in the Lok Sabha elections, winning by a margin of 32,707 votes. In the Mahadevpura assembly segment, the Congress received 115,586 votes while the BJP received 229,632. Gandhi underscored the disparity in the Mahadevpura constituency as a significant factor contributing to the BJP’s success in the Lok Sabha elections, alleging that approximately 12,050 votes out of 650,000 were stolen.
