New developments have emerged concerning the film ‘Abir Gulal,’ featuring Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The release of the film in India was suspended following the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir. The movie was intended to mark Fawad Khan’s comeback to Bollywood after a nine-year hiatus. The Indian film industry subsequently took measures against Pakistani actors. Originally slated for release on May 9, 2025, the premiere was postponed. A recent report suggests that the film is set for global release this month.
After the Pahalgam attack, questions arose about whether ‘Abir Gulal’ would ever be released. However, a report published on Biz Asia Live indicates that the film is now fully prepared for release, potentially in August. The strategy mirrors the successful approach used by Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Sardaar Ji 3.’
According to new reports, ‘Abir Gulal’ will be released in cinemas worldwide on August 29. The film’s title will also be changed to ‘Aabeer Gulaal.’ Given the public sentiment towards Pakistani actors, an Indian release is unlikely. Therefore, the focus is on releasing the film outside of India, following the model of ‘Sardaar Ji 3.’ This film, starring Diljit, could not be released in India due to the presence of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, yet it achieved significant success worldwide, including record-breaking performances in Pakistan.
Also, the Punjabi film ‘Chal Mera Putt 4’ was released outside of India, generating good business. It remains to be seen how this strategy will work for ‘Abir Gulal.’ Before the Pahalgam attack, promotional activities for Vaani Kapoor’s film were actively underway, and there was anticipation surrounding Fawad Khan’s return. However, the attack changed everything. Two days following the attack, the audio company Saregama removed the film’s songs, and the release was subsequently postponed. The validity of these reports, including details on where the film will be released internationally, is still uncertain.
