Surya Hansda, who had contested assembly elections four times, was killed in a police encounter. He had a history of criminal activities. The encounter occurred near Jirli Samari hill in the Boarijore police station area of Godda district, Jharkhand. Hansda had contested from the Borio assembly seat.
In 2019, Hansda was a BJP candidate from the Borio assembly seat. In the 2024 elections, he did not get a ticket from the BJP and contested on the JKLM party symbol, but was defeated.
Surya Hansda had been involved in numerous criminal cases, including those in the Godda and Sahibganj districts. These included firing incidents, arson, and charges of kidnapping, murder, and robbery. He was arrested on Sunday in Deoghar. The police team, based on his information, went to the Lalmatia jungle in Godda district to recover weapons. During this, he tried to snatch a weapon and escape, and the police shot him, leading to his death. The police have taken possession of Hansda’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
