Air India is set to temporarily suspend its direct flight services between Delhi and Washington DC beginning September 1st. This strategic decision has been made due to operational reasons, primarily related to a reduced aircraft fleet. The airline is currently in the process of retrofitting 26 of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft, a project designed to enhance customer experience, which will limit aircraft availability until at least the close of 2026. Moreover, the ongoing closure of Pakistani airspace is impacting long-haul operations, leading to extended flight paths and more complicated logistics. Affected passengers will be offered alternate travel arrangements, encompassing rebooking on other flights or full refunds, based on their individual preferences.
