
Colombian politics is in mourning following the death of Senator Miguel Uribe, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting two months prior. The attack, which occurred during a campaign event in Bogotá, left the country in shock. Uribe, a prominent figure in the right-wing opposition, was campaigning for the 2026 elections when he was shot. The government expressed its condolences. President Gustavo Petro stated the investigation must be deepened. A 15-year-old was arrested within hours of the attack. A hospital statement indicated the senator suffered bleeding in his central nervous system and required surgery. The politician was a senator since 2022. Uribe’s wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, shared her grief online. Six individuals have been booked in connection with the case, including two men suspected of planning the assassination in Medellín.
