Tesla is intensifying its presence in the Indian electric vehicle sector with the imminent launch of its second retail center. The new Tesla Experience Centre is set to open on August 11th at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, aiming to serve customers in the National Capital Region, a vital region for the promotion of EVs in India. This launch follows the opening of Tesla’s initial showroom in Mumbai on July 15th at the Maker Maxity Mall. The Mumbai event saw the attendance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed Tesla and expressed interest in the company establishing R&D and manufacturing facilities. The Aerocity center is in its final stages of construction, with an estimated monthly rental cost of approximately Rs 25 lakh. The premium branding is evident through images of the outlet shared on social media. Tesla currently sells only one model in India, the Model Y, with prices starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y is available in two configurations: a standard rear-wheel drive version, equipped with a 60 kWh battery and a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and a long-range rear-wheel drive version, featuring a 75 kWh battery with a range of up to 622 km. Deliveries are being prioritized in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, where vehicles will be delivered directly to customers’ homes using flat-bed trucks. Tesla has also updated its website, facilitating vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional upgrade for Rs 6 lakh, though its release in India is planned for a later date. The Model Y launch also signifies the debut of Tesla’s India website, demonstrating the company’s strong intent to grow its operations in India, even with the challenges surrounding EV policies and infrastructure.
