The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has finalized its teams for the upcoming white-ball series against South Africa and the T20I matches against Ireland. England will face South Africa at home in a series comprising 3 ODIs and 3 T20 matches. The ODI series will begin on September 2 at Headingley. Subsequently, the England team will travel to Ireland for a 3-match T20 series. The ECB has announced a new captain for this series.
21-Year-Old to Lead the Team
Against South Africa, England will field its strongest possible team. Harry Brook will captain the side. Key players such as Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root will participate. However, players from all formats have been given a break for the Ireland tour. Jacob Bethell will captain the team for the Ireland series. This is the first instance of 21-year-old Jacob Bethell being appointed as the captain of the England team. In Dublin, Jacob Bethell will become the youngest captain of the England men’s team in any international match.
All Test format players, except Bethell, are being rested for the T20 series against Ireland. Marcus Trescothick will be the head coach for that series. Luke Wright, the selector for the England men’s team, stated that Jacob Bethell has demonstrated impressive leadership qualities while with the England team. The series against Ireland will present an opportunity for him to further develop his skills on the international platform.
