Liverpool Football Club and its fans organized a moving tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva during Friday night’s Premier League match against Bournemouth. Before the match, which Liverpool won 4-2, Anfield honored the late Portuguese brothers, who tragically passed away in a car accident. The stands displayed placards spelling out “DJ20” and “AS30,” which corresponded to Jota and Silva’s jersey numbers. A moment of silence was observed by the Liverpool players. Both teams wore black armbands to honor their memory. The crowd sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” waved scarves, banners, and flags dedicated to Diogo Jota. A large image of Jota and his brother Silva was shown on the big screen. Mohamed Salah, who scored Liverpool’s final goal, was overcome with emotion as the fans sang Diogo’s tribute song in front of the Kop stand. During his five seasons with Liverpool, Diogo Jota played a key role in securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles. Liverpool has retired the No. 20 shirt in his memory and will erect a memorial sculpture at Anfield.
