The SUV segment is set for an exciting period with Maruti Suzuki and Renault India planning to launch new models. Maruti Suzuki will be launching its new mid-size SUV, the Maruti Escudo, on September 3, 2025. Renault is also preparing to introduce an updated version of the Kiger.
The upcoming Maruti Escudo will boast several innovative features for a Maruti car in the Indian market, including Dolby Atmos audio and Level-2 ADAS. It will also have a 4WD system to enhance its performance capabilities. The Escudo will share its core components with the Grand Vitara, utilizing the same engines, including 1.5-liter petrol, 1.5-liter strong hybrid, and CNG options. The design will feature minor cosmetic enhancements, and it’s expected to have a slightly larger boot space compared to the Grand Vitara.
The Renault Kiger is set for a mid-life refresh, with visual updates including a redesigned front fascia with a new Renault logo, C-shaped taillights, and a sporty rear bumper. The engine options will remain unchanged, with the 1.0-liter naturally aspirated and 1.0-liter turbo petrol engines, available with manual and automatic transmission choices. A CNG kit will also be offered as a retrofit option.
With these launches, both companies are looking to strengthen their foothold in the highly competitive SUV sector. The Kiger is expected to be one of the most affordable subcompact SUVs in the market.
