A new digital scam is circulating, and it uses WhatsApp screen mirroring to steal bank account information. This scam can allow criminals to empty accounts and steal personal data rapidly. Users of OneCard have been specifically alerted to this increasing threat.
How the WhatsApp Screen Mirroring Scam Works:
The scam involves fraudsters pretending to be representatives of banks or financial institutions to build trust with the victim. They then convince users to enable screen sharing on WhatsApp.
Once screen sharing is activated, the following happens:
* Scammers gain direct access to the victim’s OTPs, passwords, bank details, and message content.
* They request OTPs or PINs under the false pretense of verifying transactions.
* The stolen information is immediately exploited, resulting in the immediate loss of funds.
Alternative Methods: Malware Apps and Keyboard Loggers
Scammers sometimes trick victims into installing malware apps which contain keyloggers. These apps record everything a user types. For this reason, banking websites often use on-screen keyboards to prevent keyloggers from capturing user inputs.
