The BJP has presented a comparative analysis of the speeches delivered from the Red Fort on Independence Day by various Indian Prime Ministers. The analysis focuses on the length of these addresses, highlighting a significant difference between PM Narendra Modi’s speeches and those of his predecessors. The data indicates that Jawaharlal Nehru gave 17 speeches, totaling 400 minutes, while Indira Gandhi spoke for 504 minutes over 16 speeches. In comparison, PM Modi’s speeches are notably longer. The BJP, in its commentary, suggests that the longer duration of PM Modi’s speeches reflects a greater commitment to addressing contemporary issues. The debate over the length of the speeches has been fueled by criticism of PM Modi’s 103-minute address, with the BJP seeking to justify it through historical comparisons.
