Meta’s messaging app, WhatsApp, is preparing to integrate an AI helper into its chats. This new feature, called ‘Writing Help,’ will help users write messages correctly, correct grammatical errors, and change the message’s tone so that users can adjust it as they like before sending it.
How Writing Help works: This feature is currently being tested on WhatsApp Beta (Android). When the user types a message, a small pen icon will appear in place of the sticker icon. Clicking this icon sends the message to Meta AI, which provides three new versions of the message. For example, professional, supportive, funny, or rephrased text. The user can choose one of these options and edit it if they wish. The recipient will not know that the message was written by AI.
Privacy and Data Security: Meta says that Writing Help will work on private processing technology. This means that the message request will go through an encrypted and anonymous route, which will not link to any user or source. WhatsApp also claims that it does not save data and will show AI suggestions only when the user uses Writing Help.
Who will benefit from this feature?
This feature can be useful for people who want to appear more professional in business chats, who want to add some humor in conversations with friends, or who sometimes don’t know how to write a message.
Important things to note:
Writing Help is currently available only to select beta testers.
Further changes may be made and new tones may be added before the public rollout.
This feature will be off by default and is completely optional.
The app will never send AI-generated text without your permission.
In simple words, WhatsApp’s new Writing Help feature can make your chats professional, fun, or supportive as per your wish. You will always be in control.
