The rise of AI chatbots, spurred by ChatGPT, has transformed how people interact with technology. Google’s Gemini AI offers a compelling alternative. Its integration with popular services like Gmail and Calendar provides a seamless experience. However, this integration also highlights data privacy concerns: Google utilizes your Gemini conversations to train its AI models.
Gemini and similar large language models are trained on vast datasets to understand language, context, and patterns. This data helps the AI identify user needs and refine its responses. By analyzing your conversations, Google aims to tailor its AI to offer more relevant and helpful content.
As users increasingly depend on chatbots for a wide range of queries, Google leverages this data to improve its AI models. Fortunately, users have the ability to control this data usage.
To prevent Google from using your Gemini conversations for training its AI models, you must disable the Gemini Apps Activity setting. This setting can be accessed through the app or website. Google may update the name of this setting to ‘Keep Activity’ in the future, but the process for changing it will remain the same.
Steps to Disable Gemini Activity:
1. Navigate to Gemini.Google.com in your browser and sign in to your Google account.
2. Click on the three-bar menu icon on the left side, and then select ‘Settings’.
3. In the ‘Activity’ section, locate the ‘Gemini Activity’ option and toggle the ‘Turn Off’ button. This action will prevent Google from using your data for AI training purposes.
