The Indian team selection for the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be announced today, August 19th, in Mumbai. The announcement will take place at the BCCI office, with chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressing a press conference. The tournament will be played in the UAE in the T20 format. Over the past year, India has been fielding a separate T20 team, distinct from its ODI and Test squads. The composition of the team has generated considerable discussion, particularly concerning players from the ODI and Test formats. A meeting of the selection committee, including T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, will take place at the BCCI headquarters. The selection panel will announce the team and address the press at approximately 1:30 PM, and the announcement is expected to be followed by a Q&A session. The primary focus will be on the selection of 3-4 players, whose inclusion or exclusion is subject to debate. The key players in question include Test captain Shubman Gill and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both have excelled in the T20 format, yet have been occupied with Test cricket recently. The opening partnership of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson is unlikely to be altered, but the selectors must decide which of the two will be chosen for a backup opener or number three position. The selection committee must decide whether Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh, will be included in the middle order. Iyer has shown great performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. Rinku Singh has not received consistent opportunities, and his performances have varied. The decisions made by the selection committee are highly anticipated.
