Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, following Putin’s recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. The leaders discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, with Modi reiterating India’s stance and advocating for a peaceful resolution. The Prime Minister’s office highlighted India’s support for efforts toward peace. They also discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation and agreed to remain in close communication. Modi later expressed his appreciation to President Putin for sharing insights regarding the Alaska talks. Putin described the meeting with Trump as a chance to reiterate his position on the conflict. Trump, while acknowledging the meeting’s productivity, declined to elaborate and exerted pressure on Ukraine to accept Russia’s ceasefire terms. The call happened hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with Donald Trump in the White House, where Zelenskyy would be supported by Friedrich Merz of Germany and Emmanuel Macron of France.
