The Jharkhand government is focused on ensuring the availability of sand at fair prices while also combating illegal sand activities. Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari has mandated that all Deputy Commissioners finalize the auctions of commercial sand ghats by mid-September. A key aspect is the implementation of a new sand policy to enhance consumer access and regulate the sand trade effectively. The directive included instructions for comprehensive training of district officials to ensure a transparent auction process. This approach will facilitate the availability of sand at affordable prices, deter illicit practices, and limit the supply of sand from outside the state. The meeting with Deputy Commissioners also covered the importance of understanding auction procedures, conducting mock drills, and providing necessary support, including a helpline, to potential bidders.
