
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron via telephone. Providing information on X, PM Modi mentioned, “Had a very good conversation with my friend President Macron. Exchanged views on efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the India-France strategic partnership.”
The timing of the discussion between PM Modi and the French President is significant, coinciding with heightened endeavors to achieve ceasefires in both Ukraine and Gaza. India has consistently maintained that diplomatic methods are essential for resolving any conflict. India has previously signaled its readiness to assist in bringing these conflicts to an end.
The leaders also reviewed the progress of the bilateral cooperation agenda, encompassing trade, defense, civil nuclear collaboration, technology, and energy. Both leaders reiterated their mutual commitment to reinforce the India-France strategic partnership and to celebrate 2026 as the ‘Innovation Year’.
President Macron also extended his support for the swift finalization of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union. The leaders agreed to stay connected on all issues.
