The Supreme Court has announced that individuals excluded from the draft electoral roll in Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) can now submit their Aadhaar cards to object to their exclusion. The decision is intended to prevent eligible voters from being left out of the electoral process. The bench, consisting of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, stated that objections can be submitted using any of the 11 documents listed in Form 6 by the Election Commission of India (ECI) or the Aadhaar card. This allows individuals to use Aadhaar as proof for inclusion in the voter’s list. The apex court was hearing petitions challenging the Election Commission of India’s June 24 directive to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before the forthcoming Bihar assembly elections. The court also allowed for online objection submissions without the need for physical documents, and it ordered that booth-level officers must provide acknowledgment receipts for physically submitted forms.
